Overview
We keep a lot of information on our phones these days and we wouldn’t want most of it getting into the wrong hands. The normal 4 digit password is not always sufficient and if you want to feel more secure follow these steps to set a longer and safer password on your iPhone.  If you want to find out further tips for securing your iPhone see our section.
Step 1
First click the 'Settings' app on your home screen.

Next find the 'General' tab in Settings menu and tap on that option.

Now if you don’t already have a password set on your phone you will scroll down to the Passcode Lock tab and click on it. If you already have a password set on your phone you can skip to step 6.

Now simply click on the 'Turn Passcode On' tab.

Step 5
At this point it should prompt you to enter a 4 digit code if you don’t already have one so go ahead and enter a 4 digit code for now and we will change that during the next steps.

Step 6
Now if you already had a password on your phone, or if you just entered one, next we will be changing that code to a longer password where you can use letters, numbers, and/or symbols. On the Passcode Lock menu simply slide the toggle next to Simple Passcode to OFF.

Step 7
Now you will be prompted to enter your current 4 digit passcode, so enter that in. Then it will prompt you to enter your new password choice.

Step 8

Next it will prompt you to re-enter your new password. Simply re-enter your chosen password on that screen.

Step 9
You’re all done! Now after your iPhone locks you or anyone picking up your phone will be prompted to enter the password that you chose. You can repeat these steps anytime you want to change your password in the future.
